Community Service
In 2007 the chapter was recognized with the Cross and Sword award at the annual national meeting for “best community service event that impacts their community.” The award recognized the chapter’s sponsorship in 2006 of The Generals, a team in the Eight Year Old Pitching Machine Dixie League. Again in 2007, the team is sponsoring The Generals.
The chapter has adopted Second Street, where the KA House is located in the citywide trash cleanup project. Every several weeks the guys walk the street and pick up trash.
In addition the chapter supports a number of activities as needs arise in the community. Last summer members helped install signs and banners for DOVES, an organization that assists women in domestic violence situations.
Being the only fraternity house located in one of only 80 National Historic Landmark District in the United States, the men of Gamma Psi Chapter have a special awareness that their property is passed by daily tours and is identified as a “contributing structure” to the landmark designation.
