The KA House

Purchased by Gamma Psi Chapter in 1971 and remodeled in 1972, the house for the past 36 years has been the center of the chapter’s life.
Over the years several remodeling projects had kept the house livable and functional. In 1996 pressure from the neighbors on the City Council in an effort to run us away from the neighborhood by banning on-street parking that had existed since the streets were constructed forced us to purchase the adjoining vacant lot. In retrospect we now see this as a positive move since even though it cost $35,000 we are one of the only properties in the area that has adequate off-street parking.
However by 2001, the conditions especially with the bathrooms and fire safety issues necessitated the first total renovation since the original acquisition. Begun in March and completed by fall, the House had not only an interior and exterior fix-up but also structural, fire safety and insulation problems were addressed.
Also our House on the imposing hill is an anchor of the National Historic Landmark District. With only two national districts in Louisiana and 80 nationwide, we have become a regular part of the daily trolley and buggy tours of town.
So besides our own enjoyment, the KA House has become an integral part of the Natchitoches community. The House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
